Knowledge Item: CA-Medical Outcomes-47
Degree of Change in Karnofsky Severity Rating by Project: II. Estimates from HLM Analyses

This Knowledge Item shows the degree of change in clinician-rated Karnofsky Severity of illness over time by individual project. Of the six projects studied, none had significant improvement in Karnofsky Severity Ratings among their patients over time, four projects had no change, and two projects had a significant decrease over time. Four of the six projects were maintaining functioning. Note that this definition of program success means that a patient is either maintained at baseline level or that the scores have an overall (linear) trend toward improvement throughout the entire course of the treatment episode. The outcome measure used in this Knowledge Item is the linear slope (or degree of sustained change over the entire treatment episode from the hierarchical linear modeling analyses.
