Knowledge Item: CA-Medical Services-01
Triple Combination Therapy Use in Managed Care and University Comprehensive Healthcare (Integrated Care) Clinics

Highly active antiretroviral therapy or "HAART" became a key part of state-of-the-art medical treatment during the period in which the Cooperative Agreement Projects were funded (the funding period was from October 1994 through September 1999). This Knowledge Item examines the degree to which different types of triple combination therapies were provided to patients in the Cooperative Agreement Projects during this period. Note that protease inhibitor drugs used in combination with older therapies for HIV became widely available in 1997 and widely used in 1998.

Triple combination therapies appear to have been used at about the same rates in both types of clinics.
