Schneir, M.P.H.; Mari
Radzik, Ph.D.; Marvin E.
Belzer, M.D.;
A. T.
Panter, Ph.D.
This
paper describes the psychosocial characteristics of youth participating in

and compares participants based on Gender/Sexual
Orientation and HIV status. Results
are discussed in terms of designing services to meet the needs of these
vulnerable youth.
A
Comparison of Transgender, Gay/Bisexual, and Heterosexual Youth: Service
Needs in an HIV Risk Reduction Clinic
Lisa A. Melchior, Ph.D.; A.
T. Panter, Ph.D.; Arlene Schneir, M.P.H.; Mari
Radzik, Ph.D.; Marvin E.
Belzer, M.D.; G. J. Huba,
Ph.D.
This
paper examines risk factors among youth attending an HIV risk reduction
clinic with special services designed to engage and retain transgender
youth. Indices are used to compare the service needs of youth in HIV risk
reduction services and may be useful predictors of clinical outcomes for
youth at risk.
Retention
of Transgender, Gay/Bisexual, and Heterosexual Youth in an HIV Risk
Reduction Program
G. J. Huba, Ph.D.; Lisa A. Melchior, Ph.D.; Arlene
Schneir, M.P.H.; Mari
Radzik, Ph.D.; Marvin E.
Belzer, M.D.; A. T.
Panter, Ph.D.
This
paper examines the ability of an HIV risk reduction clinic – with
special services for male-to-female transgender youth – to keep youth
connected to care. Results suggest that services can retain transgender
youth in care at least as long as other youth if targeted, appropriate
care is provided.
Service
Utilization Patterns of Youth in an HIV Risk Reduction Program
Lisa A. Melchior, Ph.D.; A. T.
Panter, Ph.D.; Arlene Schneir, M.P.H.; Mari
Radzik, Ph.D.; Marvin E.
Belzer, M.D.; G. J. Huba,
Ph.D.
This
paper describes the service utilization patterns of youth attending an HIV
risk reduction clinic and examines whether these patterns differ based on
Gender/Sexual Orientation Group and HIV status. Results find that
youth-attractive, youth-relevant services, coupled with an active outreach
strategy throughout the most-affected communities, can attract high-need,
historically underserved youth into care.

The Infrastructure for
Adolescent HIV Services in Six Cities: A Cross-Cutting Evaluation of the Health Resources
and Services Administration Special Projects of National Significance
Program
This report summarizes the findings of adolescent care projects in six cities
(San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles, Bridgeport, Seattle, and Birmingham) in relation to
evaluating the service infrastructure for HIV-related youth services. The report looks at
the type and quantity of HIV-related service availability for youth in each city as well
as the barriers to providing such services. In addition, this report documents the
cohesiveness of the service continuum as well as service provider consensus of HIV youth
services design.
Youth-To-Youth–Peer Workers in HIV/AIDS Youth Programs:
A Peer Development
Guide
In 1993, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Special Projects of
National Significance (SPNS) Program funded ten national demonstration projects focusing
on youth and adolescent HIV/AIDS services. Seven of these projects have collaborated to
assemble a manual describing the best practices and lessons learned from programs that use
peers in the development and delivery of HIV services. The manual also includes advantages
and the challenges of youth involvement in service delivery. To view a flyer for the Peer
Manual, click here.
