Grantees
Contact list of grantees funded to conduct projects on HIV/AIDS services for adolescents
by the Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) Program of the Health Resources
and Services Administration (HRSA). Project abstracts for the funding period from December
1996 to November 1998 are also provided.
Children's
Hospital Los Angeles CyberTour on
the Internet
Tour Children's Hospital Los Angeles Risk Reduction Program, an outpatient
medical clinic and social support program for HIV-infected and high-risk
youth. The program is part of the Division of Adolescent Medicine and is
linked to Children's Hospital and community agencies to provide a seamless
continuum of care for youth.
HHS Secretary Shalala Awards $3.35 Million in
Ryan White Funds for Adolescent HIV/AIDS Services Models
Press release that describes the nine projects receiving two years of additional
funding from 1996 to 1998.
Cross-Cutting
Evaluation Papers from the Adolescent HIV/AIDS Care Projects
These papers present cross-cutting evaluation results from the 10 HRSA
SPNS Adolescent HIV/AIDS Care Projects. Results presented in these papers
include those relating to the characteristics of thousands of young people
served through this initiative, the services provided by these 10
innovative care models, and various outcomes related to service
utilization patterns, retention, and other program impacts.

Adolescent SPNS/Fax: An Electronic Report from
the HRSA SPNS Adolescent Care Projects
Adolescent SPNS/Fax reports are short newsletters about the 10 adolescent targeted
HIV/AIDS service organizations funded by the HRSA HIV/AIDS Bureau as Special
Projects of National Significance. The projects have been
funded to develop innovative models of HIV/AIDS care with a youth oriented focus. Each
issue of Adolescent SPNS/Fax highlights findings from these projects. This report is
distributed every two weeks by facsimile machine and also posted at this web site.
Substance Use and Related
Issues among HIV-positive and At-risk Youth
This poster was presented at the 106th annual convention of the American Psychological
Association (APA) in San Francisco on August 15, 1998. This poster presents data from the
cross-cutting evaluation of 10 innovative models of HIV care for adolescents and young
adults funded by HRSA/HAB's SPNS. The presentation focuses on the relationships
among histories of substance abuse and other client characteristics as noted in detailed
psychosocial history data from the youth.

Supplement on Ten Models of Adolescent HIV Care (August 1998)
Provides a summary, list of editors, and table of contents of the Journal of Adolescent
Health Supplement on Ten Models of HIV Care. The supplement contains a Preface,
information about the ten adolescent models of HIV care, a national consensus model for
adolescent-targeted services, and articles about the HIV care models.

This article summarizes a series of three reports that have been prepared by The
Measurement Group on initial findings from the cross-cutting evaluation of 10 projects on
adolescent care projects funded in 1993 as HRSA Special Projects of National

Report on Outreach Activities in 10
Adolescent-Targeted Projects for HIV/AIDS Services
A series of reports have been written about the activities of the 10 projects on
adolescent care funded in 1993 as HRSA Special Projects of National Significance
(SPNS). This first report examines the methods that the projects use to recruit
adolescents with, or at high risk to acquire, HIV. The report was written by The
Measurement Group in collaboration with HRSA/HAB's SPNS Adolescent Care Projects and
HRSA staff. The report covers the period from 1993 to 1996. The report is published by The
Measurement Group.

Adolescent-Targeted Projects for HIV/AIDS Services
A series of reports have been written about the activities of the 10 projects on

clients enrolled in HIV prevention and HIV treatment services. The report was written by

The Infrastructure for
Adolescent HIV Services in Six Cities: A Cross-Cutting Evaluation of the Health Resources
and Services Administration Special Projects of National Significance
Program
This report summarizes the findings of adolescent care projects in six cities
(San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles, Bridgeport, Seattle, and Birmingham) in relation to
evaluating the service infrastructure for HIV-related youth services. The report looks at
the type and quantity of HIV-related service availability for youth in each city as well
as the barriers to providing such services. In addition, this report documents the
cohesiveness of the service continuum as well as service provider consensus of HIV youth
services design.

Adolescent Referral System
CAARS: Computer Assisted Adolescent
Referral System
The CAARS system was developed for the Hollywood (California) area by The Measurement
Group to provide a computerized way of generating referrals for youth with HIV or at
high-risk. The web site illustrates the use of the Internet as a service directory that
can be used to link potential clients to service providers. [Note that following this link
