10th National AIDS Update Conference

The 10th National AIDS Update Conference, "Our Nation’s Challenge: The Next Decade," will be held in San Francisco, California from March 24-27, 1998. The conference will provide intensive workshops, roundtable discussions, plenary sessions, and exhibits. Adolescent SPNS/Fax is pleased to announce the participation of HRSA/HAB's SPNS Adolescent Care Projects in this exciting conference. The following is a partial list of the titles and authors of the presentations to be made by these projects. Check the conference program for further details. Many of these presentations also will be posted on the World Wide Web at www.TheMeasurementGroup.com.

Health Initiatives for Youth (HIFY) is coordinating the Conference’s Youth Track, entitled "Learn and Live" — at which the Adolescent Care Projects mentioned below will be presenting — as well as youth plenary sessions, lunchtime roundtable discussions, and other events. HIFY will facilitate a pre-conference orientation for youth, coordinate youth activities for each night of the conference (including pizza night, "boogie night," a mysterious surprise event, and a high-rise bus tour of the city), and provide a Youth Track information booth. Additional youth activities will include the "Living Gallery," which will be open from 9:00AM to 6:00PM each conference day for youth to explore their feelings, record their thoughts, and just hang out and make art. Other youth-friendly activities available during the conference include: a "Chat Room" (lounge); lunchtime creative writing workshops; a live video recording booth for contributions to a Spoken Word Collage; the Names Project, which consists of daily workshops where youth can participate in creating a panel for young people lost to HIV; and the creation of a large-scale painting (to be displayed at future conferences) with young artists from the Youth Industry Artists’ Mentorship Program.
