Welcome to Adolescent SPNS/Fax. Each issue highlights findings from the HRSA Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) Program Adolescent Care Projects. These projects have been funded to target adolescents and youth for HIV/AIDS services. New Information on the World Wide Web about HRSA/HAB's SPNS Adolescent Care Projects

A number of new documents about the Adolescent Care Projects of the HRSA SPNS Program have been placed on the web site of The Measurement Group at www.TheMeasurementGroup.com. Among some of the documents recently posted are the following:

A brochure was created by the Health Initiatives for Youth (HIFY) Health Action Research Team (HART) to describe its services. These services are designed to improve the quality of life for HIV infected and affected youth through peer-based skills building, education, training, and support [View It]

A presentation titled, "A Consensus Model for Innovative Adolescent-Targeted HIV/AIDS Services," was presented at the 1998 National AIDS Update Conference (NAUC) in San Francisco on behalf of the Adolescent Care Projects [View It]

The Computer Assisted Adolescent Referral System (CAARS) is an Internet-based referral system for youth and youth service professionals in Hollywood, California. A poster describing CAARS was presented at the March 1998 National AIDS Update Conference (NAUC) in San Francisco [View It] (See also: http://www.caars.net).

Health Initiatives for Youth (HIFY) developed a form that evaluated the youth component of the 1998 National AIDS Update Conference (NAUC) in San Francisco [View It]

Youth Health Initiative (YHI) at Health Initiatives for Youth (HIFY), in collaboration with The Measurement Group, developed the Empowered Youth Evaluation (EYE) Model. Evaluation instruments were developed by YHI service providers that allow youth to become active collaborators in program evaluation, and give young people a role in designing and implementing the evaluation of youth services [View It]

Six of the projects participated in an evaluation of the service infrastructure of HIV-related youth services. This report looks at the type and quantity of HIV-related service availability in each city, as well as the barriers to providing such services [View It]

A telephone interview was developed by Childrens Hospital Los Angeles to assess a collaborating agency's HIV testing and counseling capacity

The Brief Natural History Interview (BNHI) Youth Version is used to obtain information about service needs and service access off HIV-positive and high-risk-for-HIV youth. This interview includes questions on background information, work and income, history of HIV risk behaviors, utilization of various kinds of services, social support, medical history, health status, and HIV and AIDS knowledge. An Abbreviated Natural History Interview (ANHI) form used to collect follow-up data is also shown at this address.
